Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ Remake Grosses $100 Million In Global Box Office

The creature known as Nosferatu can still rise from the dead over one hundred years later as Robert Eggers’ remake of the 1922 classic continues its way up the global box office charts, Collider reports. Made for a budget of $50 million, the film has gone on to gross $70 million domestically and $30 million overseas, crossing the $100 million mark, now the highest-grossing film of Eggers’ career.

An unusual entry among recent IP blockbusters, particularly family fare such as Mufasa: The Lion King, Moana 2, and Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Nosferatu continues the tradition of its predecessor of being an outlier. The original silent version, directed by F.W. Murnau, was an unauthorized version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and despite a court order for all copies to be destroyed, the film still exists to this day, to great acclaim, influencing many vampire films including Universal’s authorized version of Dracula, starring Bela Lugosi.

Eggers’ version also stands out among its genre peers released in 2024, becoming one of the highest-grossing horror films of the year, joining indie favorites such as Longlegs, Heretic, and Terrifier 3, in a year where studio releases such as The First Omen, Abigail, and Night Swim have struggled.

The remake has also been received well critically, currently sitting at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.
