Robert Eggers Gears Up To Write And Direct ‘Werwulf’ After ‘Nosferatu’ Success

After the massive success of Nosferatu, director Robert Eggers has already set his sights on his next directorial feature. The new film will be titled Werwulf.

Much like his other films, Werwulf will continue the period piece trend that Eggers’ style has established, with the only plot details revealed being a 13th Century English story centering on a werewolf. Reportedly, there will also be authentic dialogue for the time that it will take place.

Eggers most recent film, Nosferatu, released on Christmas to critical and financial success. As stated, Nosferatu is another work of Eggers that blends horror with a period piece setting, remaking F.W. Mernau’s 1922 classic Nosferatu.

His other directorial features include The Witch from 2015, The Lighthouse from 2019, and The Northman, from 2022. Each film in his catalogue have been critical hits, and have found more and more financial success with each release. Nosferatu is his most successful at the box office, with a worldwide total of $156 million, and still climbing.

Eggers will be writing and directing for the new film. Hollywood Reporter notes that Werwulf will see Eggers co-write once again with fellow Northman scribe, Sjón.

Hollywood Reporter also stated that Werwulf will be distributed by Focus Features. Focus also distributed Nosferatu for Eggers.

Werwulf is slated for a Christmas 2026 release.
