Robert Carradine Dead At 71

According to Deadline, Rober Carradine (Massacre at Central High, Orca) has passed away at the age of 71. The cause of death was suicide after battling bipolar disorder for twenty years.

His family said to Deadline: “It is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away. In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon on light to everyone around him. We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness. At this time we ask for the privacy to grieve this unfathomable loss. With gratitude for your understanding and compassion.”

His brother Keith Carradine (Dexter, High Potential) explained his bipolar disorder further: “We want people to know it, and there is no shame in it. It is an illness that got the best of him, and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it, and celebrate his beautiful soul. He was profoundly gifted, and we will miss him every day. We will take solace in how funny he could be, how wise and utterly accepting and tolerant he was. That’s who my baby brother was.”

Carradine was born on March 24, 1954 to a family of actors. His father is John Carradine (Stagecoach, The Grapes of Wrath), who is famous for playing Count Dracula in House of Dracula and House of Frankenstein. Along with Keith, his brothers include Christopher Carradine who is Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering and David Carradine (King Fu, Kill Bill: Volume 1). Few of his famous roles include the father of Lizzie McGuire, Lewis Skolnick in Revenge of the Nerds, Slim Honeycutt in The Cowboys, Bill Munson in Coming Home, Pvt. Zab in The Big Red One and Bob Younger in The Long Riders.

He is survived by his daughters Ever Carradine and Marica Reed Carradine, son Ian Alexander Carradine, grandchildren, niece Martha Plimpton, and his brothers. The family mentions how involved he was in his family and cherished moments with them. Furthermore, they ask for privacy as they grieve.

We at mxdwn send out our condolences to the Carradine.
