Who knew a neon orange unicorn could be so menacing? Roadside Attractions has released 41-second teaser trailer for Casper Kelly’s upcoming comedy horror Buddy starring Cristin Milioti, Topher Grace, and Keegan-Michael Key as Buddy the Unicorn. Read the official synopsis below:
Inside the colorful world of It’s Buddy!, a group of children spend their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to play along, Buddy is not pleased and cracks begin to appear in this seemingly perfect world.
The teaser trailer depicts multiple sequences of Buddy and the children in the uncanny, colorful It’s Buddy show where he is seen hugging the kids, dancing with them, and maybe pushing them a little too hard. Intercut with those scenes are shots of Milioti’s Grace in what seems to be a living room, looking concerned and frightened of something offscreen, as the children of the It’s Buddy show grow more horrified by the “perfect world” they stepped onto. At the end, interspliced with the theme song of It’s Buddy, there are three quick blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shots: one is of a bloody humanoid puppet with something sticking out of its chest, a kid with a hole in his chest in some sort of cosmic space, and a gory puppet eye looking into a hole in a wall.
Kelly, who co-wrote the film with Jamie King, is known as the mastermind behind Adult Swim’s sensational 2014 horror short Too Many Cooks, which has accumulated over 28 million views on the official YouTube page. Kelly also created the 2018 psychedelic revenge horror Mandy, which starred Nicholas Cage and Andrea Riseborough, and took part in 2025’s V/H/S Halloween, in which he helmed the “Fun Size” segment where a candy bowl sucks naughty trick-or-treaters into a horrifying alternate dimension running rampant with a psychopathic candy killer.
