Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) has joined the latest film in the Bourne franchise, according to Variety. The actor is the latest to join an impressive cast that includes Matt Damon (The Martian), Alicia Vikander (Burnt), Julia Stiles (Silver Linings Playbook), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), and Tommy Lee Jones (The Homesman).
Ahmed will play a CIA tech Specialist, likely in charge of helping find Jason Bourne, however, no plot details have been released at this time. Production is currently underway in Budapest with a July 29, 2016 release date. Universal released the first photo of Damon reprising his role as Jason Bourne since The Bourne Ultimatum released in 2007.
The role marks the continued expansion of Ahmed’s filmography. After starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in 2014’s Nightcrawler, the actor was cast in the first Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which follows the rebel crew that stole the plans for the original Death Star. He’s also set to star in the drama Blackbird as well as the thriller City of Tiny Lights.
We’ll be sure to have more on both Ahmed and the currently untitled Bourne sequel as news becomes available.
