Carter Swan is set to develop a film version of the comic book The Crying Boy. The comic, written by Niall O’Rourke & Rob Moran and published by Keenspot, follows a widow and her son trying to cope with the loss of her husband and build a new life. Things take a turn for the worse when her young child befriends a mysterious painting which secretly houses an ancient demon who preys on children.
Carter Swan, who recently produced Zach Cregger’s successful Resident Evil film, is helming the project, with Rona Mark writing the adapted screenplay. Comic co-creator Nial O’Rourke said, “Super excited to work with Carter Swan and develop the project. He brings an incredible amount of experience and knowledge to this. We hit it off straight away after he read the script and he was a big fan of the Keenspot comic book series.” Chris Crosby, the CEO of Keenspot comics, said “The Crying Boy has been one of Keenspot’s best-received titles and we’re ecstatic that a producer like Swan will be helping to bring it to the big screen. It’s a testament to the awesome creativity of writer Niall O’Rourke and artist Rob Moran that this adaptation is attracting talent of the highest caliber.”
Carter Swan is a senior producer at PlayStation Productions, and has had a hand in many of their film and TV projects over the years. Besides the recent Resident Evil, he also worked on Uncharted, The Last of Us, Twisted Metal and Until Dawn.
