Release Date Set for ‘Denial’ Starring Rachel Weisz

Bleecker Street has announced an awards-friendly release date for the upcoming drama Denial starring Rachel Weisz (Youth), Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton) and Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner). The film is slated to open on September 30th. Bleecker Street nabbed North American rights to the drama at the American Film Market last fall.

Based on Deborah E. Lipstadt’s book History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier, the films centers around Lipstadt’s real-life legal nightmare against David Irving after she declared him a Holocaust denier. The specifics of the English legal system put the burden of proof on the accused so Lipstadt and her legal team essentially had to prove to the court that the Holocaust indeed occurred. Weisz, who won an Oscar a decade ago for The Constant Gardner, portrays Lipstadt while Spall plays Irving. David Hare, who was Oscar nominated for penning The Hours (2002) and The Reader (2008) wrote the film and Mick Jackson (an Emmy Award winner for Temple Grandin) directed.

Denial heads to cinemas on September 30th.
