Regina Hall, known for her comedic performances in comedies like Girls Trip and Best Man and recurring appearances in the Scary Movie franchise, has joined the cast of a new comedy for Amazon MGM by Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors, and Bros director Nicholas Stoller. The comedy, originally titled Judgment Day, before it was changed to a yet-to-be-announced title, follows Zac Efron as a young convict who escapes prison and holds a TV courtroom hostage, including the judge (played by Will Ferrell), thinking that a previous ruling made by the judge ruined his life. It’s currently unknown what role Hall will play in the film.
The film is Nicholas Stoller’s second collaboration with Ferrell and Amazon MGM Studios after the recently released You’re Cordially Invited, which also starred Reese Witherspoon. Stoller will direct the film from a script he also wrote.
Ferrell is producing the film alongside Jessica Elbaum and Alex Brown. Elbaum and Brown will produce through Gloria Sanchez Productions. Stoller is also producing through his production company, Stoller Global Solutions.
This casting announcement comes not long after Hall’s production company, RH Negative, landed a first-look contract with MGM Alternative, a division of Amazon MGM Studios.
No release date for the film has been announced at this time.
