Reed Morano (Meadowland) will direct the upcoming war drama Lioness, starring Ellen Page. The film follows Leslie Martz (Page), a closeted-gay soldier sent on a mission in Afghanistan to gain intelligence on the Taliban by working with their wives. It’s the first feature screenplay from Rosalind Ross, one of the writers of the El Rey Network’s series Matador.
This is the second film from Morano who is also known for working as a cinematographer on The Skeleton Twins and Frozen River. Her directorial debut- Meadowland– which follows a couple dealing with their son’s disappearance, is set to release October 16th. That film stars Olivia Wilde (Her) and Luke Wilson (The Skeleton Twins).
Page joined Lioness back in July and looks to be passion project for the one time Oscar nominated actress. In 2014, the actress came out of the closet at a Human Rights Campaign event and has ever since become a signature advocate on terms of gay rights. Her next film- Freeheld– stars Page and Julianne Moore as domestic partners and premiered at the recent Toronto Film Festival and will release October 2. Page also unveiled the sci-fi drama Into the Forest at TIFF this year. Coming up, the actress is set to appear in the drama Tallulah alongside Emmy winners Allison Janney (Mom) and Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black)
We’ll have more on Lioness as it develops.
