Reed Morano In Negotiations To Direct Jennifer Lopez Vehicle ‘The Godmother’ For STXfilms

The Handmaid’s Tale director Reed Morano is currently in negotiations with STXfilms to helm a Jennifer Lopez biopic entitled The Godmother, which will chronicle the lifetime of Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lopez respectively will portray Blanco and is expected to produce next to a team consisting of Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, and Julie Yorn. The Godmother screenplay was compiled by the writing duo of Regina Corrado and Terence Winter. William Monahan is reported to rewrite the biopic.

The Godmother serves as a detailed examination of the infamous drug kingpin Blanco, who manages to outwit and outmaneuver her adversaries over the course of her reign in Miami’s underworld. Blanco’s tale begins in a impoverished Colombia and unravels her involvement in Miami’s drug war.

STXfilms and Lopez previously collaborated on two films: a romantic comedy titled Second Act and the critically acclaimed black comedy crime drama Hustlers starring Constance Wu, Cardi B and Keke Palmer. Morano most notably won an Emmy in 2017 for directing the pilot of The Handmaid’s Tale.
