Australian actress Rebel Wilson is recognized for her many comedic roles but is best known for her role as Patricia “Fat Amy” Hobart in the “Pitch Perfect” trilogy. However, on a new episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast hosted by Alex Cooper, Wilson shared how she had to wait until she was finished with the “Pitch Perfect” franchise before losing weight.
“I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because it was in the contracts for that movie. You can’t lose — I think it’s not more than 10 pounds or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract.”
Wilson also shared how she felt she was pigeonholed as a plus-size actress for the “fat, funny friend” role. “I was stereotyped in playing that fat, funny friend, which is so hard because I love those roles. I love doing the roles, I love those characters. But then I did want to do more things, but I felt like being the bigger girl, you’re just more pigeonholed.”
In 2019, a doctor told Wilson that her weight could cause fertility issues. In 2020, she took to Instagram to declare her “year of health” and continued documenting her weight loss journey on social media. Since then, Wilson has lost more than 80 pounds.
Rebel Wilson recently starred in and produced the Netflix comedy, “Senior Year,” which reached number one on Netflix in just three days.
