Rebel Wilson is set to host the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards on March 13th, already in its 75th edition. The British Academy announced on Friday that the Australian actress will host the ceremony, celebrating the best of both British and international films. The event will be held once again at London’s Royal Albert Hall and the broadcast will air on BBC One and BBC’s iPlayer.
“I am very honored to be hosting the EE British Academy Film Awards in March, where COVID will no longer exist because it will clearly have been canceled by then,” said Wilson, via The Hollywood Reporter.
Wilson also wants to celebrate the British film industry, highlighting franchises such as Harry Potter, and not titles like Cats. Using perfect comedic timing she states: “Everyone is going to love it, I’m sure!”
The BAFTA CEO Amanda Berry is delighted to have Wilson as the host, stating that she has a knack for stealing the show, including her performance at several previous film awards. Rebel’s undeniable stage presence and charisma will allow everyone involved to enjoy the best in film.
Nominations will be announced on February 3rd, last year’s hosts were Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary.
This will be Wilson’s debut as a BAFTA host. After finding success in Australia, the actress moved to the US. She became more widely known with her roles in Bridesmaids and the Pitch Perfect trilogy. This year, she will be seen in cheerleading comedy Senior Year and drama The Almond and the Seahorse with Charlotte Gainsbourg.
