Being one of two films to premiere at this year’s Sundance both telling the true story of newswoman Christine Chubbuck, Antonio Campos’ Christine has finally released its first trailer, and it promises audiences an intense ride.
Rebecca Hall (The Town) graces the screen as Chubbuck in what looks to be a spellbinding performance. Chubbuck is known as the reporter who shot herself on-air in 1974 after suffering a nervous breakdown. Starting calmly, the trailer takes audiences through the gradual build up of Christine’s mental collapse and shows some explosively dynamic acting from Hall.
The film also stars Michael C. Hall (TV’s Dexter), Maria Dizzia (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Tracy Letts (The Big Short), Kim Shaw (Animals), and Timothy Simons (HBO’s Veep). Frozen River Producer Craig Shilowich wrote the script.
The Orchard will release Christine on October 14 after the quasi-documentary Kate Plays Christine – which also premiered at Sundance and features Kate Lyn Sheil (Equals) portraying the woman on the brink. See Rebecca Hall in the role below, a performance which is earning her some early Oscar buzz.
