Just before the Academy Awards the following day, the 43rd Razzies premieres their entries and winners for the worst of the worst in entertainment. The list of winners includes Jared Leto, Blonde, and, surprisingly, the Razzies itself.
The controversial Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, decried as trauma porn, was given the top dishonor for Worst Picture alongside Worst Screenplay. Tom Hanks, on the other hand, was given the award for Worst Supporting Actor for his performance as Colonel Tom Parker, alongside a gag award for Worst Screen Combo (awarding Hanks “and His Latex-Laden Face (and That Ludicrous Accent)”). This award put him on the list of actors who have won both a Razzie and an Oscar, like Eddie Redmayne, Jared Leto (who won this year’s Worst Actor for Morbius), and Hallie Berry.
In a surprising turn of events, instead of awarding Worst Actress to anyone specific, the Razzies nominated themselves and won in a voters’ landslide. Initially, their spot belonged to 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong for her performance in Firestarter, which got immense backlash from the Internet due to the actress’ young age and shining an unpleasant light on her. They gave a public apology stating that they “regret any hurt she experienced as a result of [their] choices“ and replaced her slot with themselves. In the same apology, they announced they would instate an age limit for Razzie nominations at 18 years old. During their acceptance speech, their mascot Razz Berry gave a speech apologizing for their actions and promising to learn and be better. “Until our next mistake,” he concludes, “cheers!”
