The Amateur, the Rami Malek-led thriller released by 20th Century Studios, has set a digital and Blu-ray release date. The film follows Malek, in his first starring role in a feature film since his Oscar-winning performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, as a CIA analyst who goes on a globetrotting revenge spree to kill those involved in killing his wife. It also stars Lawrence Fishburne, Jon Bernthal, Rachel Brosnahan, Holt McCallany, and Michael Stuhlbarg. The film currently holds a 60% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an even better 88% audience score.
The Amateur was a mild box office disappointment, earning $40 million domestically and $55 million internationally, for a total worldwide gross of $95 million. Despite this impressive total, with an estimated budget of $60 million, the film didn’t quite make a profit. According to most box office analyses, a film has to make around 2 to 2.5 times its budget to break even.
But despite its underwhelming theatrical take, The Amateur could still bounce back through streaming and home media sales. The film will be available for VOD and digital purchase on June 10th. The film will also receive a physical release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD, which will be released on July 8th.
