Ralph Fiennes Could Miss Out On An Oscar Win

Academy Award-nominated actor Ralph Fiennes has been nominated again for his role in Conclave. This will be his third Oscar nomination since his past performances in Schindler’s List and The English Patient. There have been notions regarding mistaken belief in how Fiennes has already won Oscar awards before.

According to Variety, several misinformed members of the Academy have reported not having voted for Fiennes for Best Actor in Conclave. The reason why these separate members did not vote for Ralph Fiennes this year is because they mistakenly believed he had already won Best Actor before. As most Americans will never know the true identity of the Academy members, there has been speculation where comparatively, some Academy members have claimed they voted for Adrien Brody for Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist yet he already received an Academy Award in the past for best actor in Roman Polanski’s film, The Pianist.

The Oscars rely on people’s opinions when selecting the best films and actors per year for the Oscars. They can make mistakes. The question is whether an actor’s previous win should determine whether or not they will win an award for certain years. The Oscars will premier this Sunday, March 2, 2025, and audiences are anxious to see who will take home the win. Whoever wins, ratings, and reviewers will believe that certain awards were more deserving to other people/films and vice versa but of course, this will be all forgotten when The Oscars air again next year.
