The film, Privacy had its premiere at Korea’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film (BiFan). Privacy is a voyeuristic social thriller set in the slums of Mumbai which follows Rajshri Deshpande, known for her role in the hit Netflix series Trial by Fire, and her Rotterdam winner of Sexy Durga, as surveillance operator Roopali. She works at the Mumbai surveillance command center, and during her shift, a robbery and murder take place, prompting her to investigate and ignore all protocols.
The themes the film explores regarding mental health, voyeurism, and access to people’s information. Check out the Privacy teaser down below.
Privacy is directed by Sudeep Kanwal known for the films, Silent Wave and Dhund, and Privacy is Kanwal’s debut feature. The cast includes Sandesh Kulkarni and Nishank Verma, the film is produced by Fundamental Pictures in relation with House of Talent Studio. The producers are Shlok Sharma and Navin Shetty along with Ranjiy Gugle as executive producer.
Variety got in an exclusive with Kanwal as he discussed the film.
Kanwal explained to Variety, “The access to personal data by big corporations should be a topic of concern. Yet, we don’t hear much about it. There are no strict regulations against collection of data. Even though the film is based around a CCTV control room. The theme of losing privacy to technology is similar to what’s happening to all of us on a daily basis. I hope the film can make the viewer aware of privacy issues that surround us.”
BiFan will run June 29-July 9, hopefully bringing more people to this surveillance-centric film.
