From the Bride’s inclusion in the recently released season of Fortnite to the upcoming theatrical release of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, which combines both volumes of Kill Bill into one 4 1/2-hour movie, there are many reasons why Kill Bill has been in the cultural conversation lately.
So, it’s no surprise that Tarantino recently discussed doing more with the franchise. During the premiere of the Epic Games-produced animated Kill Bill short Yuki’s Revenge at the director’s own Vista Theater, Tarantino spoke about revisiting an idea he’s been considering doing after making the original Kill Bill movies: a prequel film involving Bill, played by David Carradine in the original Kill Bill movies.
Here’s what Tarantino said about the idea:
“I’ve got other things to do right now, but I had a whole Kill Bill idea in my mind when we were doing it, and then I was so wiped out from doing the movie. I like the idea of a Bill origin. A story of Bill, about how Bill became Bill and the three godfathers that made Bill: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzō. Will I live long enough to do that? That remains to be seen.”
At that same screening, Tarantino also discussed another scrapped project of his: A prequel film involving Vincent Vega, the character played by John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Tarantino states that he’s considered the idea of doing the film as an animated film in the style of Japanese anime by saying:
“I could see some world between this and Japanese anime that I could find some happy medium or, you know, between the things that I couldn’t physically do, like say the Vega Brothers movie, or something like that.”
Of course, if Tarantino does go through with the Bill prequel idea, it would not involve David Carradine, as the actor passed away in 2009. Carradine can be seen in the upcoming theatrical screenings of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, which will start on December 5th.
