Ryan Gosling’s performance in his upcoming sci-fi movie will be out of this world, hints the film’s writer, Drew Goddard, Screen Rant reports. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of Spiderverse fame, starring Gosling, Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, Bastian Antonio Fuentes, Isla McRae, and James Wright, and adapted from a book by Andy Weir, who also wrote The Martian, Project Hail Mary, about a science teacher turned astronaut who must travel to another galaxy for a solution when Earth faces an impending ice age in several decades, has recently completed production.

Per Variety, Goddard, who also adapted The Martian for Ridley Scott in 2015, said:

“If you like ‘The Martian,’ I suspect you’re really going to like what we’re cooking up with ‘Hail Mary’.  Chris and Phil and I have known each other for decades now, and I love their work. And then obviously, Ryan Gosling is one of the staggering talents of our time.”

Gosling, who previously played real-life astronaut Neil Armstrong in 2018’s First Man, has had a bit of an interstellar rise in his career as of late. He received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in Barbie and starred in this past summer’s action-packed The Fall Guy.

Project Hail Mary is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2026.
