Set photos and video have been released as Greta Gerwig’s Netflix reboot of The Chronicles of Narnia has begun shooting, Screen Rant reports.
Development began when the streaming platform acquired the rights to C.S. Lewis’s fantasy series in 2018, with Gerwig signing on as writer and director in 2020. The project will be an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew. The sixth book, but the first chronologically, follows Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer as they enter a magical realm, witness the creation of the land of Narnia by the lion Aslan, and must face the evil White Witch when she descends upon our world.
Now, set photos and video have surfaced online showing production commencing in London, including footage of two unknown child actors playing the lead roles of Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer. A notable change in Gerwig’s version is that the story has been set in the 1950s post-war era, whereas the original novel takes place in 1900.
Produced by Amy Pascal, Mark Gordon, and Vincent Sieber, the cast will also include Emma Mackey as Jadis the White Witch, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, and Meryl Streep. Filming will also occur at Shepperton Studios.
Gerwig’s reboot of The Chronicles of Narnia is set for a two-week theatrical IMAX release in November 2026, before arriving on Netflix streaming on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2026.
