Over at Marvel.com, they are pleased to report that filming is now underway for Captain Marvel. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a U.S. Air Force officer who gets caught up in the explosion of an alien device, melding her genetic structure with Captain Marvel’s, thus turning her into a human-Kree hybrid (aka an ultra-powerful superhero).
The production scheduled to shoot primarily in the greater Los Angeles area, and principle photography has already begun. Los Angeles will serve as home-base for the production. They will also be shooting on location in Fresno, California, as well as two cities in Louisiana (Baton Rouge and New Orleans).
The movie takes place in the 1990’s, so expect lots of Friends and Seinfeld references, a grunge rock soundtrack, debates about whether CD’s and DVD’s are viable mediums, and AOL modem noises. The film is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who also helped write the screenplay, along with Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive, and Carly Mensch.
In addition to Larson, the movie features the acting talents of Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. Pace will reprise his role as Ronan the Accuser, who you may remember as famously losing while getting distracted by a dance-off in Guardians of the Galaxy. Gregg will play a younger version of Agent Coulson, who you may recall from Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or that one non-jokey scene in The Avengers. Just kidding, there was still a joke.
Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
