A new branch has been created for The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. On Friday afternoon, the organization’s board of governors voted in favor. Currently, the Academy had 17 branches, and with this, it expanded to 18.
The new branch created will group “approximately 400 individuals previously classified as Members-at-Large,” as mentioned in a statement, and is named Production and Technology Branch. The members of this new branch were informed before the announcement.
The Production and Technology Branch will be composed of “ “members working in key technical and production positions in all phases of filmmaking, from pre- to post-production… including stunt coordinators, script supervisors, choreographers, music supervisors, colorists, line producers, and associate producers.”
Typically each branch of the Academy is represented by three governors. However, this new one will only be represented by one. Nevertheless, this will be plus the three governors-at-large.
