The Producers Guild has postponed announcing its nominees in movie and TV categories for the 2025 PGA Awards. The nominations will now be announced on Sunday, Jan. 12. Additionally, the voting window for casting a ballot has been extended until Saturday, Jan. 11.
The Producers Guild had already announced nominations in the documentary, sports, children’s, and short-form content categories. The American Society of Cinematographers also moved its awards nomination announcement to Monday, January 13th instead of Thursday, January 9th.
As the fires in Los Angeles continued to spread, the Oscars, voting for which began Wednesday morning, also extended the voting window until Tuesday, January 14th. Additionally, the nominations announcement was delayed to Sunday, January 19th.
The Writers Guild of America delayed their nominations announcement to Monday, January 13th.
Various events including awards shows and screenings for Oscar hopeful films have been postponed as well. Most notably, the 2025 Critics Choice Awards have been delayed until Sunday, January 26th from its initial date of January 12th.
Saturday’s AARP Movies for Grownups Awards along with Friday’s AFI Awards celebration luncheon were also postponed. Donna Langley’s Universal Toast at Sunset Tower on Friday and Saturday’s BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills are no longer happening either.
The Los Angeles fires began on Tuesday, January 7th in the Pacific Palisades, and have left at least five people dead and the damage has affected communities ranging from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena. The Pacific Palisades fire is the most destructive in LA’s history, with more than 1,000 structures destroyed. Plus, an additional 1,000 structures were destroyed in the Eaton fire in Pasadena. The five deaths recorded so far were from the Eaton fire.
On January 8th, another fire broke out in Hollywood Hills, bringing the flames closer to the city and densely populated neighborhoods. The fire is also dangerously close to affecting iconic places such as the Hollywood Bowl, Walk of Fame, and TCL Chinese Theater.
Luckily, firefighters were able to get the Sunset Fire under control after burning through 43 acres. The Los Angeles Fire Department lifted all evacuation orders for the area early Thursday morning.
Strong winds have fueled the fires, but are expected to die down, giving firefighters a chance to contain the flames completely.
The fires have consumed approximately 45 square miles, according to the Associated Press. More than 100,000 people are under evacuation orders.
Numerous stars have lost their homes, such as Billy Crystal, Eugene Levy, Mandy Moore, Anna Faris, James Woods, Diane Warren, and Paris Hilton.
