A release date of March 17, 2017, has been set by A24 Films for Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire. The action film about an arms deal gone wrong in 1978 Boston stars Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson (Room), along with Cillian Murphy (In the Heart of the Sea), Jack Reynor (Macbeth), Armie Hammer (The Birth of a Nation), and Sharlto Copley (The Hollars).
The film premiered at TIFF, with positive critical reviews comparing the shoot-em-up to Guy Ritchie’s early action-heavy indie work. A24 also previously acquired the critically acclaimed quirky love story The Lobster starring Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz (Denial), another film from the struggling distributor Alchemy. Last year, A24’s Ex Machina garnered a Visual Effects Oscar and an Original Screenplay Oscar nomination for writer-director Alex Garland.
A24 also released a poster for the film, with the five leads sporting guns of various shapes and sizes. Check it out below:
