‘Popeye The Slayer Man’ Trailer Released

The famous comic character Popeye has officially entered the public domain, and it seems fitting that he is now getting his own horror movie. Horror adaptations have become a rite of passage for intellectual properties entering the public domain. In recent years, characters like Winnie the Pooh and Steamboat Willie have received similar treatment. Films such as Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, The Mouse Trap and Screamboat are notable examples. Now, Popeye joins their ranks with Popeye the Slayer Man.

Inspired by the classic E.C. Segar comic strip, Popeye the Slayer Man reimagines the character with a sinister new backstory centered around a contaminated spinach factory. The trailer depicts a far more brutal version of the beloved sailor. This iteration of Popeye crushes heads and rips off scalps when a group of college students stumbles upon his factory.

The film is directed by Robert Michael Ryan and stars Sarah Nicklin, Scott Swope and Angela Relucio. Set for release in 2025, the movie promises to showcase Popeye putting his massive biceps to gruesome use in this gory take on the spinach-eating sailor.
