Yorgos Lanthimos’s newest release Poor Things premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Friday. The ovation received following the film lasted 10 minutes and 37 seconds, according to Deadline.
The film stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, and Mark Ruffalo. But, with the state of the SAG-AFTRA strike, none of these actors were in attendance at the debut during the film festival. Based on the novel of the same name, Poor Things, as stated by IMDb, is an

The story, originally written by Alasdair Gray in 1992, is a play off of the classic, Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley. The film has been discussed previously due to several sex scenes that took place in it. Lanthimos addressed this on Friday, and credited intimacy coordinator Elle McAlpine for the work going smoothly.
Poor Things was written by Tony McNamara, and produced by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe Stone, and Lanthimos. Deadline noted that the response at the Venice Film Festival following the premiere was
one of the most enthusiastic responses to a film some Venice fest-goers have ever seen.
The source goes on to state that during different parts of the ovation, the audience was heard chanting “Yorgos, Yorgos.”
Poor Things played at the Telluride Film Festival this past weekend and is set to play at the New York and London film festivals this year as well.
