Many longtime Pokémon fans are curious about the new CGI Animated remake of the original Pokémon: The First Movie. The film was originally released last year in Japan by Toho, however no word of an official American release has been announced until now. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back- Evolution has been announced to be released in America on Netflix this February. Netflix even provided a new American trailer for the upcoming CGI Animated remake.
The trailer starts out very similarly to how the original film started, showcasing Ash Ketchum and his friends going on adventures and getting into Pokémon battles as usual. Things change when an mysterious Pokemon known as Mewtwo is on the lose and wants revenge on humanity. Ash and his friends are invited to face up against him in an epic Pokémon match. This trailer showcases many of the story elements found in the original film from Team Rocket exploring Mewtwo’s palace, Mew flying around, and various Pokémon fighting against clones, this time in CGI. The trailer even ends with Pikachu facing off against a clone of himself, alluding to one of the original film’s most iconic moments.
Unlike most of the other trailers shown for Evolution, this new trailer showcases a lot more plot and moments that were in the original film. Another major difference shown in this trailer is obviously the English voice acting. However, the voice acting in this version of the film is not done by the 4Kids actors from the original American dub of the film. No word has been said about the new voices for Ash and the other characters in this remake. While fans might be slightly disappointed that the film is not getting a theatrical release in America, they’ll be at least looking forward to the film’s US release, and on such an accessible platform.
Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes-Evolution is set to release on Netflix on February 27th, 2020.
