Plot Information Teased for ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Spider-Man (Garfield) with his expected nemeses in the distance from left to right: Rhino (Giamatti), Green Goblin (DeHaan), and Electro (Foxx)

Sony plans to reveal its first trailer for Amazing Spider-Man 2 this Thursday, but decided to reveal some information about the plot ahead of time. It has already been revealed that the villains for part two will be Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as Rhino, and that Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) will make an appearance.

Sally Field will reprise her role as Aunt May. At this time, Chris Cooper is on the official cast list as Norman Osborn, but there’s no hint as to how much he’ll show up, or in what form; as was the case with Willem Dafoe’s portrayal of the character, Norman Osborn is equally as present in the comics as alter ego Green Goblin. The Green Goblin’s appearance in the above poster has fueled speculation that this time Harry, not his father Norman, will take up the Green Goblin title (a mantle Harry has also frequently shouldered in the comics.)

In its release, Sony mentioned that the plot for Amazing Spider-Man 2 will highlight Peter Parker’s (Andrew Garfield) struggles to balance his personal life and relationship with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) against his duties as Spider-Man. Said Sony, “Being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro, Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn, returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.”

Paul Giamatti as Rhino

During the pre-release marketing for the first Amazing Spider-Man, Sony made a total of 25 minutes of footage available through trailers and other promotions. The studio may have learned its lesson after a fan, “The Stinky Skunk” edited a video synopsis of the film just from freely available footage (unfortunately, the video has since been taken down). If not, expect this week to be the first of many moments that Sony will release information about Amazing Spider-Man 2 building up to its 2014 release.
