After bringing the fan-favorite Pitch Perfect franchise to a close, director Trish Sie is making the move to the horror genre with her next project Rebecca and Quinn Get Scared.
The upcoming horror comedy will be women-led and follows best friends who leave the city life behind to start a bed and breakfast in small town Maine. Their plans are disturbed when they realize the place is haunted and chaos ensues.
The script will be penned by Nanci Katz and Cylin Busby, author of The Year We Disappeared and The Stranger Game. Donald De Line (Ready Player One) will produce on behalf of New Line.
New Line is making big strides in horror with the The Conjuring, Annabelle, and It franchises all succeeding in the box office. Rebecca and Quinn join their upcoming line up alongside It: Chapter Two and another Annabelle film.
This is a much needed development in the world of horror cinema, which has been historically male-dominated and has a reputation for objectifying women. There are few horror films with female leads or female directors, and this one has both. We’ll see if this film can help boost the work of women in horror, in front of and behind the camera.
