You best start believin’ in fourth sequels, Mr. Depp. You’re in one!
Walt Disney Pictures has released a new poster and trailer for their upcoming fifth and presumably final installment to their long standing blockbuster Pirates franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Released as an Ellen TV exclusive, the trailer shows Johnny Depp’s Oscar nominated Jack Sparrow (2003) on the run from “ a Spaniard named something in Spanish”, played by Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall), who seeks revenge on Sparrow for dooming him and his crew years ago as they now sail the seas as cursed undead men, per the franchise norm.
Other than the properties Disney has acquired over the years (Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars), the Pirates franchise is one of their most successful in-house brands, on par with their animated Princess line. It comes as no surprise that a franchise with such global box office domination would have such staying power in the company’s slate of live-action films over the past 15 years, alongside their live adaptations of beloved animated classics.
The film is directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) and will feature the return of fan-favorites Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is due out May 26th and is not yet rated, though it is safe to say it will receive the franchise favorite PG-13, (“I saw her ankles!”)
