Phil Lord And Christopher Miller Test ‘Beyond The Spiderverse’ For IMAX Screens

Marvel's 'Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse' (2023)

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is still well underway, according to producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The film, which was initially teased in the post-credits scene of Across the Spiderverse in 2023, was initially slated for a 2024 release. Given the extremely long and strenuous process of developing the previous film, many people doubted that release window. Lo and behold, the film was delayed multiple times and is now eying a 2027 release. In a recent interview with producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, they are “deep in it.” One of their biggest challenges is formatting the film to work with the expanded 1.43:1 IMAX ratio. Miller stated,

We’re actually going today to the IMAX headquarters to see what the footage looks like at scale and make sure that it has the resolution that it needs to look gorgeous.

He also reiterated that the film needs to be “perfect,” saying,

We’re chugging away in the edit room with the team, and it’s coming together really well. It’s a lot of movies, and a lot to do. You got to keep doing something that hasn’t been done before. That’s all you got to do. Easy!

Lord went on to add,

The thing that’s a joy about those pictures is that everyone on the crew is so good at what they do. So, you just sit around, marvel at all these brilliant artists, and then we get to work with these great filmmakers, sit in a room all day, and just try to make everything incrementally better together. It’s a lot of fun.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord just came off of directing Project Hail Mary, one of the most popular films of the year. On top of producing Spider-Verse, they recently announced they would return to direct 24 Jump Street, the long-awaited threequel starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Spider-Man fans hopefully will not have to wait too much longer for the third installment, as it still maintains its 2027 release.

But for those unable to wait, Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31 and should tide fans over for some time.
