Renée Zellweger is set to play the lead in Darlington, a new film from Sacha Gervasi (Hitchcock, Anvil: The Story of Anvil). The film is a dramedy which follows a washed-up actress (Zellweger) who is hired to reprise her most famous role. The catch is that the role will be played in real life for a tech billionaire (Dominic Sessa) at an estate that he restored to its original state. She must live there in character as if she were living in 1923. She soon realizes that the line between reality and fiction is more blurred than she thought.
The film is being written by Gervasi and also stars Peter Dinklage alongside Zellweger and Sessa. The Rocket Science, Monumental Pictures, and Portobello Electric are producing the film, and it is expected to begin production in Spring 2027.
Renée Zellweger reprised her role as Bridget Jones last year in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Dominic Sessa has been making the rounds since his big debut in 2023’s The Holdovers. He starred in Now You See Me Now You Don’t last year, played Anthony Bourdain in Tony this past summer, and is set to star in Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice ’85 in 2028. Peter Dinklage, while most known for Game of Thrones, has appeared in many smaller roles over the past few years including The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Wicked, The Toxic Avenger, Roofman and the currently playing Wicker.
