‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie Officially Greenlit

In a previous conversation with Deadline, Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy spoke of possibly a Peaky Blinders movie to happen after the completion of the series. Today, that project was confirmed as the new Peaky Blinders movie has a studio greenlight from Netflix.

In this upcoming project, Murphy will pick up the iconic role of Thomas Shelby, the Shelby family’s fearless leader. No other cast members have been announced yet, but Tom Harper is set to direct the film. Harper has had previous experience working with Peaky Blinders as he directed episodes in Season One. Steven Knight created Peaky Blinders and will serve as the film’s screenwriter. He will also produce alongside Murphy, Caryn Mandabach, and Guy Heeley.

Knight told Deadline in a previous interview that that film would take place during WWII but did not disclose any further details regarding the project.

This news airs two years after the sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders. This movie will wrap up the story of the Shelby family and officially say goodbye to its iconic characters and cast. On Peaky Blinder’s Instagram page, they announced the film with a photo of its bulky screenplay, and a quote from Murphy, “It seems like Thomas Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” and fans alike can agree that they were not either.
