The Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley has signed on for the sci-fi film Convergence, working off a screenplay written by Jeff Richard, Deadline reports. The story supposedly will follow a group of college-age biotech engineers who lose control of a new technology when performing an underground experiment.
The project has been created as a vehicle for the actor-producer and will begin filming next spring. Wesley is no stranger to creative involvement of this caliber, both onscreen and off. He has directed several episodes of his CW show The Vampire Diaries (now in its sixth season), and has acted as producer on the films Norman and the Emmy Rossum indie drama Before I Disappear, which premiered at this year’s SXSW film festival.
Wesley will continue to star in The Vampire Diaries and will also soon appear in the drama Mother’s Day opposite Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow). Convergence’s science fiction premise will presumably allow Wesley to branch off even further creatively.
