Normal People breakout Paul Mescal and Mank’s Tom Burke are to star in Christopher Andrews’ directorial debut film Bring Them Down, according to a Deadline exclusive. The project is currently being presented at the European Film Market (March 1-5, 2021) in the hopes of attracting high-profile buyers. Paris-based company Charades is handling the sale and functions as executive producer on the film.
Bring Them Down, also written by Andrews, is described as an Irish revenge thriller. The story, set in Western Irish farmland, follows a shepherd’s investigation upon discovering a number of his sheep massacred. The crime leads to a violent conflict between the shepherd and the inhabitants of a neighboring farm. It is unknown which roles Mescal and Burke are to play.
Paul Mescal can be seen in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s upcoming film Lost Daughters and Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied’s Carmen, a modernized version of Georges Bizet’s legendary opera. Tom Burke can be seen as Orson Welles in David Fincher’s Mank and in Joanna Hogg’s 2019 film The Souvenir, which is set for a Part II in the near future. He also stars in the upcoming film True Things About Me, directed by Harry Wootliff and co-starring Ruth Wilson.
The film will be financed by Screen Ireland, Charades and Hype Film. Producers are listed as Ivana MacKinnon of Wild Swim Films, Ruth Treacy and Julianne Forde of Tailored Films, with Ilya Stewart and Jacob Swan Hyam. Filming is set to begin mid-summer 2021.
