Paul Dano, last seen on screen floating on Daniel Radcliffe’s corpse in Swiss Army Man, appears to have signed on to airplane-set thriller 7500. Dano will lead the tense-sounding film that centers exclusively in cockpit of a plane as it is taken over by terrorists. Patrick Vollrath will make his feature directorial debut on the project – he was nominated for an Oscar this past year for helming the live-action short film Everything Will Be Okay. Deadline was the first to report.
Dano is slated to portray Tobias, a co-pilot for a particularly unnerving commercial flight from Berlin to Paris once the airplane is overtaken by the sound of screams in the background. Eventually, the culprits – a cadre of men – make their way to the cockpit. Tobias is put into a position of whether to fight back or try and negotiate with the assailants. 7500 looks likely to begin production in Germany this summer. As of yet, no other casting announcements have been made.
Dano, a veteran of Oscar-winning titles that include There Will Be Blood, 12 Years a Slave and Little Miss Sunshine, has been on a bit of roll lately. In the past few years, he earned strong reviews for his performances in Youth, this summer’s eccentric Swiss Army Man and the Brian Wilson bio Love & Mercy, role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He is currently in post-production on the drama Wildlife, his directorial debut, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Nocturnal Animals) and Carey Mulligan (Suffragette) and recently wrapped a featured role in Joon-ho Bong’s Okja.
We shall stay tuned for 7500.
