Paul Dano Eyed to Star in ‘The Englishman’

According to Deadline, Paul Dano (Swiss Army Man) is in talks to star in Working Title’s thriller The Englishman. Edward Berger (Deutschland ’83) is attached to direct. Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing with Lucas Webb overseeing the feature.

Developed from a spec script by Luke Garrett, the story centers on an ambitious East German Stasi officer (Dano) tasked with uncovering the true identity of The Englishman, an assassin whose identity is unknown even to those who hire him.

Dano was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor BAFTA for his dual roles as Paul Sunday and Eli Sunday in 2007’s There Will Be Blood. He received a Golden Globe Best Supporting Actor nom for his portrayal of musician Brian Wilson in 2015’s Love & Mercy. Dano is making his directorial feature debut in Wildlife, starring Oscar-nominated actors Jake Gyllenhall (Nocturnal Animals) and Carey Mulligan (Suffragette).

Working Title is currently working on further casting.
