The official trailer for the sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Cop is here, and as you’ll see in the above trailer, the titular character has taken a much-needed vacation. But those plans go awry as the hotel he’s staying at in Las Vegas is attacked in much the same way the mall was in the first movie. Blart heads right into the action, with the same zany physical comedy and witty banter that made the first film so successful.
Kevin James returns as Paul Blart, as does Raini Rodriguez, who plays his daughter, Maya. But those seem to be the only returning characters, at least as seen in this trailer. There’s no sign of Blart’s love interest from the first movie, Amy (Jayma Mays), nor of any of Blart’s friends from the mall. It’s been six years since the takeover of the mall, both in real life and within the movie (Paul Blart: Mall Cop was released in 2009), and the premise of the movie is Blart and his teenage daughter Maya having their vacation interrupted.
Blart once again takes justice into his own hands and fights to protect the hotel. This time however, he does have backup in the form of the hotel’s regular security force, a ragtag team of officers if ever there was one.
The movie is directed by Andy Fickman (She’s the Man) and once again produced by Adam Sandler and Kevin James. The movie is currently in post-production, and is scheduled to be released on April 17.
