Patrick Wilson and Charlie Plummer To Star In Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Moonfall,’ Alongside Halle Berry And Josh Gad

Patrick Wilson is joining the cast of the  the upcoming end-of-the-world science-fiction thriller Moonfall. Joining him are Halle Berry and Josh Gad as co-stars, as well as Charlie Plummer, who appeared in Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World.

Moonfall, which is directed and produced by Roland Emmerich, was acquired by Lionsgate last year and is planning a 2021 release, with production expected to begin in Montreal. Moonfall is also penned by Emmerich and his 2012 co-writer Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen (Extinction). The film centers on a mysterious force that knocks the Moon out of orbit ands it hurtling on a collision course with Earth, causing a ragtag team to launch an impossible last-ditch space mission to prevent annihilation.

Wilson will play a disgraced former NASA astronaut whose last mission, which had ended in tragedy, holds a clue about the impending catastrophe. Plummer will play his teenage son, Berry is playing a former colleague of Wilson’s character, while Gad is an eccentric genius discovers that the moon has fallen out of its orbit.

Wilson is re-uniting with Emmerich after collaborating on last fall’s World War II picture Midway, which was also distributed by Lionsgate. Wilson is one of the staple stars of hit horror franchise The Conjuring and will reprise his character of paranormal investigator Ed Warren with upcoming The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, set to premiere on Sept. 11.

Plummer starred in Hulu’s Looking for Alaska and garnered the Marcello Mastrioianni Award for Best Emerging Actor at the 2017 Venice Film Festival for his performance in Andrew Haigh’s Lean on Pete.
