According to Deadline, Patricia Clarkson has recently signed to Universal Pictures She Said, the film based on New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor’s best-selling book, She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement. The book describes their award-winning investigation of the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault story in 2017.
Clarkson will play Rebecca Corbett, the New York Times’ investigations department editor who oversaw the reporters. Twohey and Kantor will be played by multi-Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan. Corbett joined The New York Times in 2004 and edited numerous Pulitzer Prize-winning stories.
Deadline also reports that in 2018, Annapurna Pictures and Plan B Entertainment optioned the rights to She Said under their co-production deal. Oscar Winner Rebecca Lenkiewicz adapted the screenplay and Maria Shrader is directing.
Clarkson’s work in independent film earned her the 2018 British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Sally Potter’s film The Party. She won the Golden Globe Award and Critics Choice Award in 2019 for her role in HBO/Blumhouse’s Sharp Objects. She was also nominated for an Oscar in the Supporting Actress category for 2003’s Pieces of April.
