Our favorite toys are set to return for Pixar‘s upcoming Toy Story 4. Tom Hanks (Bridge of Spies) and Tim Allen (Wild Hogs) are confirmed to re-join the animated franchise- again voicing their iconic characters Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Now comes news, courtesy of The Wrap, that Oscar winning actress Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) may be in talks to join the voice cast for an original character to the Toy Story universe.
John Lasseter (who directed the 1995 original and its 1999 sequel) will direct the film alongside Josh Cooley. Cooley will make his feature directorial debut with Toy Story 4 but is longtime Pixar colleague- he most recently shared a writing credit on the animation studios’ summer blockbuster Inside Out. Multi-hyphenate talents Rashida Jones (best known for her role on Parks and Recreation) and Will McCormack (Alex of Venice) wrote the script for the animated sequel- both previously wrote the 2012 romantic comedy Celeste & Jesse Forever.
While not much is known regarding the plot for Toy Story 4, Lasseter has claimed that the film may focus on the romance of Woody and Bo Peep (voiced by a returning Annie Potts). The role that Arquette may be taking on is that of a down-to-earth, hippie-like parent. No official confirmation by Disney has been made about Arquette’s casting.
Arquette won an Oscar for her twelve-year role in Richard Linklater‘s 2014 coming-of-age drama Boyhood. Most recently, the Emmy Award winning star of Medium has returned to television with the lead role in CSI: Cyber. On the big screen, Arquette will likely next appear in the crime drama The Wannabe
Toy Story 4 is slated to be released on June 18, 2018- an already crowded summer time frame as sequels to Jurassic World and Godzilla are planned for the same month as well. We will stayed tuned to the latest.
