Paris Jackson and Bella Thorne’s New Film About Jesus Stirs Up Controversy

Paris Jackson, daughter of polarizing musical icon Michael Jackson, is starring in new film titled Habit – and is playing  Jesus Christ, per the New York Post. The project also stars Bella Thorne as a young woman who gets caught up in the wrong end of a drug deal and must escape those pursuing her by dressing as a nun. She also has a “Jesus fetish,” one that is presumably acted on when Jackson’s Jesus shows up to help her.

Obviously, this is rubbing many people the wrong way, and a petition on Change.org has been quickly created. The petition is aptly titled “Prevent Distribution of the Film Habit,” and already has over 270,000 signatures. It cites the premise of the film as “blasphemous” and “Christianophobic garbage.” Habit was independently produced and the petition begs distributors not to pick up the rights to it.

It also reportedly stars model Andreja Pejic and singers like Josie Ho, Alison Mosshart of the band Dead Weather, and even Gavin Rossdale of Bush. It was directed by first-time director Janelle Shirtcliff, who has acted in movies like Don Peyote (2014) and Dirty Old Town (2012).

The 22 year-old Jackson is the only daughter of Michael Jackson and Deborah Rowe. Thorne’s most recent role was 2020’s Infamous.

A release date for the film has not been announced.
