Steven Yeun has joined the cast of the untitled animated Aang Avatar film from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon. Character details are still under wraps, so it’s unclear which of the Four Nations his character will hail from.
Yeun has already visited the Avatar: The Last Airbender world in the sequel series The Legend of Korra. He voiced Avatar Wan, the first Avatar in the cycle. He may make a return as the first Avatar or portray a completely new character. Yeun joins the cast with Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza.
Lauren Montgomery is directing, and William Mata is co-directing. The film is based on the series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Maryann Garger and Latifa Ouaou join DiMartino and Konietzko as producers. The untitled Avatar Aang films is set for release on January 30, 2026.
Yeun is currently in production on Ben Affleck’s Netflix film Animals. He recently wrapped production on Joe Carnahan’s RIP, starring opposite Matt Damon and Affleck, also for Netflix. He can be seen in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 and Amazon Prime’s Invincible series.
Yeun is repped by WME, Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox, and Narrative.
