Paramount has finally released the trailer for Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, the long awaited animated film in the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. This film has had a rough go, as not only did Paramount decide to cancel its theatrical release, but the film was leaked online in its entirety earlier this year. The leak has since been taken down, but experts estimate that millions of people watched the film in the few days where it was easily accessible. The film was set to release on Paramount+ in October, but it now has a new release date of July 25. It still will not have a theatrical release, being exclusive to Paramount+.
The film follows the events of the original series, checking in on Aang and the rest of Team Avatar several years after the Fire Nation was defeated. Aang restored peace to the land, but he still laments his status as the only remaining Air Nomad. But when Aang and his friends discover the existence of another airbender, his hope in reviving the Air Nation is renewed. Despite ending the 100 year war, there are still forces which threaten this newfound peace, so Aang must work together with his old friends Katara, Sokka, Toph and Zuko to not lose everything they fought for.
The film is directed by Lauren Montgomery, with co-directors Steve Ahn and William Mata. The film features an all-new voice cast compared to the original show, with Eric Nam taking over as Aang. Alongside him are Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, Steven Yeun as Zuko, Dionne Quan as Toph and Dave Bautista as newcomer Tagah. The film was written by Tim Hedrick and Christopher Yost. Watch the full trailer below.
