Michael Mann’s upcoming biopic Enzo Ferrari has found a distributor. Paramount Pictures has signed on to handle distribution in most territories worldwide.
Director Mann (who recently directed the cyber terrorism drama Blackhat starring Chris Hemsworth) has been working for years to bring Ferrari’s story to screen. While mostly known for his crime dramas like Collateral and Heat, he does have experience in the biography genre, having helmed such acclaimed biodramas as Ali and The Insider, both of which Oscar nominations- the latter from Best Picture and Director in 1999.
The film is set in 1957, a pivotal year in the life of the luxury car magnate. Christian Bale is set to star as Ferrari. The film reunites director Mann with Bale, who was featured in the director’s 2009 Public Enemies. Bale most recently appeared in Ridley Scott‘s Exodus: Gods and Kings. Next up for Bale is Adam McKay’s financial dramedy The Big Short, starring alongside Ryan Gosling, Steve Carrell and Brad Pitt.
The film is based on the biography Enzo Ferrari, The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine by Brock Yates. The script was adapted by Troy Kennedy-Martin (The Italian Job).
Mann will serve as producer alongside Vendian and YooZoo Bliss. YooZoo Bliss will also handle distribution of the film in China. A summer 2016 shoot in Italy is being eyed.
