If, featuring Ryan Reynolds and a host of imaginary friends, will make its streaming debut on Paramount+ on July 9. This date is according to Variety reporting. If, released in May, follows the story of Bea (played by Cailey Fleming) as she copes with her Dad in the hospital. Through the course of the movie, she learns that she has a special ability to see imaginary friends. She then learns that her neighbor Cal (Ryan Reynolds) has the same ability, leading them to team up to connect kids with their long-lost imaginary friends, also known as IFs for short.
The film was written and directed by John Krasinski as a way to shift genres from his notable horror films, such as the A Quiet Place franchise, to something more lighthearted.
IF’s release was received with mixed reviews, earning a 49% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 88% audience score. It fell short of opening weekend box office expectations earning $33.7 million, but that number has since risen to over $185 million worldwide. According to Variety, critics felt the characters fell a little flat and the world-building could be improved, but the movie was chock-full of cool ideas and had some decent humor.
