

Sam & Victor’s Day Off, a spin-off of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which has been in development for several years, is officially going ahead at Paramount. Details about the film appeared during an update that surfaced, going over various productions now part of the Paramount and Skydance merger, which was made official on August 7th. Sam & Victor’s Day Off will take place at the midpoint of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and will follow the two valets who take Ferris’s best friend, Cameron’s 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, on a joy ride after it’s left in their possession.
This spin-off film, which will be released almost 40 years after the original, will be written by Ben Zazove and Evan Turner, who will be writing the new draft of the script. It had been previously reported that David Katzenberg had signed on to direct the film, with Paul Young, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald producing, and Dina Hillier serving as an executive producer. Bill Posley was initially set to write the script before Zazove and Turner took over writing duties.
Deadline officially revealed this update and all the other development updates stemming from the Paramount and Skydance merger. Other development updates given include the acquisition of the film High Side, being directed by James Mangold and starring Timothée Chalamet; a new Transformers film with the possible return of Michael Bay; a new Star Trek film being directed by Toby Haynes, written by Seth Grahame Smith, and produced by Simon Kinberg and J.J. Abrams.
