Paramount has made a few announcements today in addition to the earlier Dungeons & Dragons castings. Reinaldo Marcus Green, via Deadline, is set to direct the untitled Bob Marley Biopic, while Watchmen and Fences star, also via Deadline, Jovan Adepo has been cast in Damien Chazelle‘s latest film Babylon.
Reinaldo Marcus Green, a former professional baseball hopeful, had this to say about Bob Marley, that his “music lives on in all of us. His lyrics transcend continents, color, creed, and generations of people. It heals. It fights. It bleeds love and truth.” Green continues, “I trust this film will bring us closer to understanding his journey, his music, and continue to carry the torch of his legacy with humility and grace, and most of all, love.”
It is clear that Green has a deep respect for the artist, while Marley’s kids Ziggy Marley, Cedella Marley, and his wife Rita Marley, are all on board as producers.
Green is slowly making a name for himself, as the Marley picture will be his fourth feature outing. He is currently filming King Richard, a biopic starring Will Smith about Venus and Serena Williams father, Richard. That film is set for a November 19, 2021 release date.
The other small piece of news is that Jovan Adepo has joined the cast of Damien Chazelle’s 1920s Hollywood film, Babylon. He joins a cast that definitely includes Brad Pitt and Li Jun Li, and is rumored to have Margot Robbie and Tobey Maguire, though they have not been confirmed yet.
Little is known about the movie as a whole, but writer-director Damien Chazelle typically impresses with his stories of Hollywood, at least to those that enjoy his movies.
Babylon is set for an early release in 2022, and will be released worldwide for awards season buzz early in 2023. It is still in pre-production, but the addition of Adepo certainly adds a solid actor in the mix.
