New stills have been released to Entertainment Weekly for the upcoming film Pan, along with the first trailer. Both include Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard in the upcoming re-imagining of the Peter Pan story.
The Joe Wright (Atonement, Anna Karenina) directed film will offer a different look at the classic J.M. Barrie tale. In the film, Blackbeard captures a group of orphans, including Pan (Levi Miller), and takes them back to Neverland. Garret Hedlund (Inside Llewyn Davis) plays Hook, who is a member of Blackbeard’s crew sans his namesake accessory. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘s Rooney Mara will also be in the film as the princess Tiger Lilly, while Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables) will play the character Mary.
Jackman’s physical appearance in the film appears to take influence from the conquistadors of the 16th Century. Jackman donned similar garb when he played the conqueror Tomás Verde in 2005’s The Fountain. The photos also show that Neverland is a floating island and Blackeard’s ship will fly there.
Jackman was rumored for Pan at the end of 2013. The film is set to release July 17, 2015 where it will face-off against the comedy sequel, Ted 2.
