With no host for the 91st Annual Academy Awards Ceremony, it seems the producers behind the Oscars are tempted to call their last major hope. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscars want to have the cast of Marvel’s The Avengers to host this prestigious ceremony. Given this year’s Oscars is on ABC and the fact Disney owns both the network and Marvel, it seems fairly reasonable to why this decision is being considered.
For the time being, instead of having a single host like previous years due to the Kevin Hart controversy occurring after his hosting announcement, the show will rotate with celebrities presenting the major awards during the show. Seems like a rather simple solution to make the show not only flow better but also to have it last a little shorter, since the overtly long length tends to be a major criticism of the Oscar ceremony. However, that doesn’t seem enough for the producers of the show, as a possible attempt to get big ratings, they want to have all the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to appear in the show hosting. With the cast of the Marvel Universe expanding every year, it’s clear there will be a lot to host with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and many others to be a part of the huge hosting line-up for this year’s Oscars.
The producers of the show have yet to comment on how they would be a part of the ceremony. It’s unclear if it’s going to be the actors playing as themselves or them actually playing as their characters in The Avengers. At the very least, there will possibly be a skit either way with Chris Evans dressed as Captain America alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man introducing the award for best costume design in film. Regardless, as seemingly desperate and out of place this may seem for some viewers, this is also some good cross promotion, not just for the Oscars themselves, but also as a good way to promote Avengers: Endgame as well. Who knows, maybe that’ll also be the weekend Marvel will premiere the second trailer for Endgame as well.
